The cost of your Wedding at St Denys

If you choose to marry at St Denys Church, it will be a day that is personal and unique for you.
Weddings can be expensive, but the price depends on what Optional Extras you choose to make your day special.

Part of the cost is the legal and statutory fees that everyone pays, which are defined by the Church of England

Compulsory Fees

There is a required legal fee for marrying in a church that has ancient origins and ensures your church can maintain essential services like weddings, christenings, funerals and all kinds of other ministries for you and your community.

This is set by the Church of England nationally and is the same everywhere.
Prices were revised in January 2022 - 
The current compulsory fee is £480  if both partners live in the Parish of St. Denys*

This fee is distributed by the the church in two ways.
£218 will be submitted to the Diocese of Winchester to provide ministry and support churches across Hampshire.
£262 is retained by St Denys Parish Church for its own work.
This includes providing an officiating minister for your wedding, making all the arrangements and making the church available on the day.

Banns of marriage
An additional statutory fee of £32.00 is charged for the publication of the Banns of Marraige.
Banns need to be read both in St Denys Church and the parish in which each partner lives*.
 

*If you live in a different parish, your parish church will make a further charge of £48.00 to publish the Banns (£32) and issue a Certificate of Banns (£16). You must present this certificate to the Officiating Minister before you can marry.

Optional Extras

You will no doubt already be making your own arrangements for those extra special things that make your wedding unique – reception venue and catering; music; photography and video; flowers; accommodation; favours and gifts. The list can be endless…

All of this is arranged privately between yourselves and the service providers.

There are extras available from St Denys Church that you might consider:

the services of a Verger – £35

A Verger ensures the church is warm, clean and tidy for your wedding and can help with handing out Orders of Service and hymn books etc. They can also set up a PA and cue music you might have in digital format or on CD. They can assist with disability access if needed by your guests and guide people to find their seats, toilets or crèche if there is one. They can be indispensable in larger churches, freeing up the vicar to give their full attention to you and the wedding service.

an organist – £80*

This needs to be booked in advance, as we have several organists on hand and they will play according to their availability. Costs may vary as our organists work as freelancers and set their own prices.

Please note that at St Denys we do NOT currently offer Bell-ringing or a Choir

We also do not provide flowers or other church decoration. This is individual to you and needs to be arranged independently.
