Advent Reflection: God Gives Enough as We Wait
I wonder if you are waiting for anything at the moment: for a result or an answer; for an event or a trip; for things to get better or for life to make sense. Or simply for a package to arrive. You're in a state of 'Not Yet'
That experience of the 'Not Yet' of waiting can often include a 'Not Sure', 'Not Clear', 'Not Knowing'. And sometimes that can be hard and you want to the waiting to end. But sometimes it can feel better to be in that place of limbo rather than arriving at the place and the answers that you feel you can't face.
Advent, which begins this weekend, is the 'Not Yet' season, and I find myself thankful for a season that acknowledges and values a common human experience; that of waiting.
And the thing I notice as I reflect on the 'not yet' that came before Christ's birth, is that God gave enough so that people could trust him and take the next step, even though they didn't know the full picture. Mary was given her cousin Elizabeth, Joseph was given affirmation that God was in the mess, the Magi were given writings that made sense of the celestial. And the people of God were given snapshots through the prophets that gave a shape to their hope.
I wonder what God is currently offering you that is enough to trust Him and take the next step whilst you are in the time of waiting. It might be an encouraging person (like Elizabeth), or a whispered truth (like Joseph received), or something resonating from scripture (like the Magi). Or maybe something else (like a good night's sleep!)
If you are waiting, may you be blessed. And if you know someone who is waiting for something, may you be an expression of God's provision of enough.
Advent blessings,
Sera and the St Denys team.
