St Denys Church Fence is more than metal and concrete. It is a window on a community urban green space and heritage building; the canvas on which art, memories and messages are displayed; the security that ensures dogs can play and run safely; and protection for the habitat that we manage for wildlife. It is an understated hero of our local urban landscape.

We need to replace it so that it’s not a trip hazard for people walking past, and because it’s getting worn out and scruffy. It needs a little bit of love.

We’re replacing like-for-like (with metal tops across the wire for robustness and smartness) rather than upgrading to a different style due to the cost, effectiveness, time and legal considerations.

The cost of replacing all the fencing around the grounds is £8000 – there are many metres of it. If we raised £500 towards this from donations it would be fantastic. Reaching £1000 would be amazing. If we reached £2000 to £5000, it would free up money from church funds to do other site work… like fix the main entrance gate.

So, we are inviting you to be a Friend of the Fence and to donate towards the replacement of this understated hero of our local urban landscape.
